SBS Show

After two weeks in production we're proud to present SBS Show #8 with Susan Bradley, MVP. We tried very, very, very hard to dumb her down and present patching and patch management to the magic "150" level where you're not being ridiculed but also not so over your head that you can't implement her advice. This is the show you pass on to your clients, to your boss, to every single person running Windows. I know there are more people out there like my dad, that see that yellow box and ask me 6 months later whether they should install it. This is the show for them. … and a show for you, the IT consultant. If you've ever seen Susan's blog (http://www.msmvps.com/bradley/) she is big on running things correctly and we've pressed her to explain everything - from patching to security to how she puts together Sam the Server posts. Professional, business and personal - this show has it all. In about a week when we clear out the rss/podcast traffic I will post the show in 128bit quality instead of the "royal flush gang" quality of 40bit. So what are you waiting for? Download SBS Show #8 (Runtime: 1:23:23) http://www.vladville.com/sbsshow/sbsshow-episode8.mp3 Subscribe to SBS Show http://www.vladville.com/sbsshow/podcast.xml Subscribe to SBS Weekly http://www.vladville.com/sbsshow/sbsweekly.xml Susan's links to more info on Patch Management: WSUS, MU and WU oh my (ppt) Microsoft Security Response Center Blog Technet Security Bulletin Center Windows Server Update Services How to do WSUS on SBS Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) .. and if thats not enough, Susan Bradley also writes patch management articles for Windows Secrets.

And if it was a female…we’ve got an award for you, and several other folks we like to recognize.

So meet us in London on Wednesday!

Hi Vlad hi Chris,

good stuff… and great Podcast for people who are new to the patchmanagement stuff.

But I´m a little bit sorry, than you didn´t go under the hood of wsus and things like patching Office with WSUS (the local installation source thing) and things like delta compression. (Express Update function in WSUS)…

Ok perhaps it don´t belong to the scope of people that you want you reach as an IT Pro ;-)
Best Regards Philipp Kohn

Thats a bit of an issue here Philipp, in the way that most people that run and manage SBS really are not what you would traditionally consider an “IT Pro” and even 90% (my estimate) of the audience that does IT management in the small business professionally would not stand at the competence level of the traditional IT Pro.

That is in part why we do this show, to educate people and give them something they can use. There is no sense going into the depths of WSUS when they don’t even bother to install SP1. You have to sell people on actually patching when stuff comes out, WSUS can automate that later but we have a completely different stuff.

Mark Stanfill has an excellent show over at Inside SBS but I can tell you that there are few people in SBS that understand what they talk about. Those of us that do love it, but our audience is the SBS admin and we’re working very hard here not to make that sound like an insult in the future.

Ok
There is no sense going into the depths of WSUS when they don’t even bother to install SP1.
thats totally clear…;-)

and I know the Inside SBS Guys, but they should really ask santa claus if they get a new audio equipment…:-)

The Sound of the Inside SBS-Podcast is really bad..

Regards Philipp
BTW: Don´t want to critize you… I´m only a technical freak..who want s to now everything.. under the hood. ..:-)

Mark Stanfill |

Phillipp - when’s the last time you gave us a listen? Santa Claus came a little early this year. Now, we’re not Howard Stern or Imus (thank goodness) or Adam Curry, but I think you’ll find we’ve improved 1000% over our initial LiveMeeting recordings. Give the latest one a try and tell me if you think it’s still “really bad”.

My focus is purely technical - we cover information that you won’t find anywhere else. Like Vlad said, you have to know your audience. We have an listnership of 4-5,000 people out there who are hard-core technologists and who do need the nuts and bolts.

Now, since we have the same business model as the SBS Show (income $0, output > $0), I’m always up for donations of equipment ;)

Philipp Kohn |

Hi Mark,

ok you´re right since the 9th Podcast the audio quality is really better.

I´m looking forward to your IMF Podcast…

Regards Philipp
