I LIKE free software. I HATE people stealing software. It is even more unthinkable when they earn the profits to pay for their fancy cars with that theft!

I did think about the IE example. I just don't have the "Nads" that you have to throw it back in Steve's face. :)

Ken,

How exactly is free software damaging for you, you're a VAR/consultant and we all know that there is no such thing as a margin in non-MicrosoftBS product lines such as Office and Vista.

As for Steve and the value of software... Should have asked him if he associated $0 value with Internet Explorer when he gave it away in 96 :)

In my puny little existance, I had the pleasure this spring of asking Steve Ballmer a question on why Microsoft was now consorting with the enemy (Novell). His reply was "We want to work with the companies that understand that they need to charge you for the value you receive from software (Novell, Redhat, etc), and we want to bury the freebies.

I do like the ability to use open source software such as CentOS. On the other hand, I grit my teeth when a client won't buy Office to make their $24K per year employee more productive, but thinks instead that Microsoft should let them use it for free.
