I'm in a mood after dealing with crappy blog server software all day.

Not that it matters.... but stickler back at you. No, I was on their case since Patch Tuesday James. I was opening up Bugs in connect before you asked questions. I just wasn't vocal about it at that time.

Your post in the partner newsgroup was copied and sent to Microsoft folks to say "look you idiots I'm not the only one able to connect the dots and figure out there's ain't no eula to be blocking this sucker in June.. FIX IT".

I hate to be a stickler but I brought this up in the Yahoo Group as well as the Partner Newsgroups which is where Susan got wind of any EULA or no EULA issues. She may have been on MS's case about the contradiction in the FAQ vs. SP2 at that time but my post back in April that the FAQ clearly stated the SP would have a EULA which it did not have at that time.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb286758.aspx

Q. Is SP2 a mandatory update through Windows Update?

A. No, SP2 is an optional update from Windows Update site. After 3 months on Windows Update site, SP2 will also be offered via Automatic Updates (AU). Even on AU, SP2 will not install automatically until the End User License Agreement has been accepted.

MS’s response at that time was weak to say the least however they did not contradict the FAQ in that a EULA would be present on AU. I took that to mean that SP2 would in fact be repacked before AU which was MS’s intention without any heads up required by us. They also confirmed that the SP2 Blocking Tool would also stop any deployment. There may have been some conversations going on behind the scenes but they only got started after my post.

I suppose that depends on the activity, needs and on the size of the system. Obviously if your backup takes 14 hours to complete you'll have different types of demands.

Wouldn't you want to make the backup of the server after you take it offline (otherwise run the risk of losing e-mails and other changes made during step 4)?
