Excellent post.

I do have to say, though, that many VARs are almost religious about their vendor choices. That's why we have Anti-Virus shoot-outs and long debates about fighting spam, etc.

We have a stable of products that we support. It changes only very slowly over time. The last change was to drop SAV in favor of Trend. This was entirely due to seven years of channel-unfriendly behavior at Symantec. I can't promise Trend seven years of loyalty, but they'll have it until they lose it.

And now that we're with Trend, we'll do their training, learn their product, join their advisory panels, and wear their shirts. Every client who "renews" their anti-virus will move to Trend.

Because even if they're not perfect, we need to do whatever it takes to make this relationship work. It's in _our_ best interest to pick a solution and stick with it.
