We're in violent agreement then, my friend.

Again, it's a matter of matching your requirements to the tools available. It does work for me, and I will happily agree if it doesn't work for you.

I'm with you on "locked media". I don't buy a thing from the iTunes Music Store, but find that using MP3 does the job just right.

It's quite possible there isn't a solution that does what you want.

Mike,

Using MacOSX on a non-Apple PC is illegal. You have to buy a Mac or else. Now the overpriced part makes sense doesn't it?

Hi Vlad:

So why not buy a Mac clone and OS X? Then you can run BootCamp, Vista, XP and Ubantu, so each can do what they do best.

When we were studying The Office of The Future last century, one of our observations was "If an idiot CAN use it, ONLY idiots will use it." That's a bit harsh applied to Macs, but there's some truth in it.

Dave,

Now, not so fast - it is NOT the right tool for the job. Perhaps for you it is, but I have a few TB of pictures, video and audio content I really would not want to lose. Apple is definitely not the tool for that job. Watching the slideshow on a TV, maybe streaming mp3s or youtube, OK, but for a true media home powerhouse it falls short. I don't see where any of my requirements or perceived limitations of the Apple as a solution are "religious" as in "blind faith" in nature - not open, not easilly extensible (maybe with 2-3 Terrastations attached?), locked media inside of a locked application. I don't know that borders on religious fanaticism.

You're right on one thing, to each his own.

Just getting off a plane, so the brain cells aren't fully up, but.

As long as you'll admit that it's religious bias, then I'm ok with it.

Right tool for the right job. If it doesn't fit your needs, it doesn't.

It fits mine, and very, very well.

You hit the nail on the head, Vlad. There's nothing compelling aside from the aesthetic beauty of the Mac.
