Exchange 2007 Beta 2 has just been posted on the web.

Exchange 2007 upgrade is a massive change from 2003, almost to the same degree Exchange 2000 changed from 5.5 days. It is a central point of storage for all the future communications - phone, voice, mail, mobility and then some. It is almost imperative you start testing, learning and experimenting with Exchange 2007 now so you’re up to speed when the release does come out later this year.

Remember that Exchange 2007 will be in 64bit flavor only so you will likely need to upgrade your test gear (HP has a dual core 64bit laptop for less than $700).

Gotta love this.

I post a movie about the three of us goofing off and I get 20 comments.

Post something as exciting as the next generation of communications and possibilities and I get… crickets.

Talk about wrong priorities.

Vlad,

We’re coming into SBS from Web Hosting/Webcasting, like you. We want to move away from commodity hosting and sell more services. We’re still learning SBS, just managing a few offices so far, but it’s fun, and we’re enjoying the learning curve.

We run a 3Com NBX ourselves, and I can’t wait for the unified inbox. I can check my voicemail via email already with the NBX (IMAP) but having a single inbox, and having Outlook become voice-mail ready, will rock! Thanks for the post. We’ve got to get busy with “real” Exchange, we mostly know Communigate, but we’re learning more about SBS-ized Exchange all the time. Nice blogging and thanks for the wiki!

Hope to run into you at SMB Nation…

Aaron

Vlad, the post is in the middle of the day when some of us have to work!

I downloaded the beta to start testing with and noticed an interesting item listed in the FAQ. Unified messaging will be included in the Enterprise CALS but not in the standard edition. Maybe not as many customers will make use of UM as I thought originally!

It’s big news don’t get my wrong but until they figure out the direction, migration, integration and spell those out with a great degree of certainty I can’t be concerned with it. We cannot afford downtime or email outage of any kind so for us this beta is really a non-event.

It will take me several months before I can even put together a test platform for this. I would like to see them deliver these in a virtual lab (TechNet style) so I can learn without building/architecting.

Microsoft are you listening?
