Shockey Monkey

As I mentioned yesterday, if there was ever an easy way for you to score an iPod, this is it. Below you will find three pictures. What is different about them?

I need to know specifically what difference you see.

Post a comment, three winners will be randomly chosen from the comments that get it right. I’m not looking for the numbers, so this has a medium degree of difficulty.

But hey, free iPod, and an advanced copy of SBS Show #28. Can’t beat that.

They are hosted in different countries!

Dallas - 65.99.192.56
Amsterdam - 92.48.91.52
Australia - 119.63.202.82

Way to colo your monkey icons!

Florida - OwnWebNow

United Kingdom - Poundhost Internet

Australia - Servers Australia

Costas T |

Each image comes from different servers (different IP addresses)

Jeff M. |

Showing the OwnWebNow Intercontinental capabilities! Nice flex of your super power!

Howard Cunningham |

The only difference that I can find is that they are on different IP addresses, which imples that they are on different servers.

StaceyC |

Are you talking physical differences, or the fact that they are hosted on servers in Dallas, London, and Sydney?

rms |

Besides them coming from different parts of the world, there is NOTHING different aboout them, proving once again that “No matter where you are, you will get the same great service from OwnWebNow.”

(I hope that was enough of a suck-up to win an IPod.)

Ian Murphy |

No difference the in the appearance but two have been smuggled in from abroad.

Flashman |

Aside from the worldwide hosting of the pictures in three locations already mentioned.
A simple right-click properties is your friend.

BosReg |

Same image, but hosted in three locations as shown by the ip addresses and traceroute information.

Mike S |

Image 1 & 3 have non-breaking spac behind them!

Mike T |

All the same, apart from the fact they’re served from different continents.

Nick |

to paraphrase: different sh1t, same logo

Jesse Kliza |

They are hosted in Dallas, London, and Sydney and images one and three have a space behind them.

AllenS |

I only see three red X’s. Servers must be down or something.

Justin Blakely |

Logo 1 - UNITED STATES - FLORIDA - ORLANDO - OWNWEBNOW

Logo 2 - UNITED KINGDOM - POUNDHOST INTERNET SERVICES

Logo 3 - AUSTRALIA - INTICON.NET

Greg Smith |

Same deal - I “see” no difference, but they are hosted from different servers.

Nistrea Florin |

There is only one difference between those pictures : all are hosted on different servers.

Bill |

talk about too much time on your hands!!!
so who’s the pusher now?
“hey bored IT folk, want some stuff? watch my blog like a hawk! Igot iPods and other swag…”
So where does this fall in SWAT?

vlad |

Bill,

Slight difference there. Vladville does not sell reports generated by the unemployed people racing through surveys to get $10.

It’s just a quickie way to give an iPod to the friends of the blog.

-Vlad

markcrall |

Global Monkey Power, user knows none the difference.

Michael D. Alligood |

No iPod for you Bill.

The monkey looks happier in the last one. Shock that bitch.

Amy B |

If you want to know what I see, not what others say they know, then what I see is that they appear to be in different brightness.

I had to setup a mac and an iphone yesterday. May as well own an ipod and see what all the fuss is about.

Alex Roy |

They are 3 different IPs from three different countries in three different parts of the world.

Colo in Texas, USA
IANA in UK
IANA in AU

Thanks Alex

(Information found at dnsstuff.com)

Dave Whyte |

The top one is shaded darker followed the middle and then the bottom one being the lightest.

Or is it my screen/eyes :-)

Ryan Ford |

Dallas - 65.99.192.56
Amsterdam - 92.48.91.52
Australia - 119.63.202.82

otherwise, identical. the comment about not needing the numbers wa a dead givaway vlad.

Tony |

Well, the first monkey looks shifty, like he’s trying to get over.

The second monkey looks like a pretty trustworthy little guy.

However, that last Monkey looks like he’s real trouble. I’d keep an eye on him.

OR

It could be they’re hosted across the globe to highlight the fact you’re a world wide presence.

But I still go with my first assessment….keep an eye on that last one.

Duncan Collier |

I agree, they seem to get lighter as they go down. The middle one seems somehow more “British”, has a more distinguished air about it….

Philip E. |

Hear no evil …
Speak no evil …
See no evil …
The Three Wise Monkeys.

peter |

The third picture doesn’t have a reflection below the logo.

Chris Haaker |

Each image is hosted on a server in a different country.
Like, global man.

allenmiller |

I understand that Tim Barrett especially loves monkeys. I also see a dot next to one of the monkeys ears but when I scroll the page I see that the dot does not move with the image. How do you do that? And also, different countries/servers hosting.

Regards,
Allen Miller

Marcus |

I see the third image rendered first with a slight delay before the second, almost instantly followed by the first.

I’m located in Sydney.

Chris Knight |

They’re all coming from different data centres. Which means the live export paperwork got done then!

But if the image is modelled off a chimpanzee, then they should all be called Shockey Ape. A chimpanzee is not a monkey. If it’s supposed to be a macaque, then you’re OK.

ScottInFlorida |

The top one smells like barbque.
The middle one smells like pot.
The bottom one smells like Fosters.

Susan |

This is your sneaky way of announcing that Vlad Jr. is really triplets?

Susan |

P.S. Have a zune and a MacMini, let the ipod go to some other Apple deprived soul.

Gordon |

Same pic, different servers.

Richard |

smgo.jpg file located at different ip’s

Kyle |

The first logo is correct.

In the second logo the monkeys right ear (Left for those of you in Australia) is 1px vertically bigger than the left ear.

In the third logo the monkey has had 2 more beers than the first two monkeys combined minus the monkey that created the logo.

Are we clear?

Chris Rue |

Gotta get in for the drawing…

Same logo, hosted on different continents.

Daniel Koster |

I spent 1 minute staring at them trying to see what was different and wasn’t seeing anything.

Oh well, time to go do some survey’s for a chance to win a gift card. Or some other way to waste my time.

Brian Caisse |

Each picture is hosted on a different server which is in a different country.

USA
UK
Australia

Going Global!

Ali |

Hello,

The third one down on the list seems to have a closer spaced font and the font is brighter than the first two.

Thanks,
Ali

vlad |

Ok, contest over. Thank you for playing. I think next time I will be offering free monitor calibration devices and magnifying lenses because a bunch of you are just blind mofos or will go blind looking at the monitors that display a bitwise identical picture in different shades/colors.

:)

-Vlad

HandyAndy |

Ok maybe I am a bit late, but sign me up for one of those monitors, because the bottom one looks a lot brighter on my old (3 month old to be exact)worn out HP w2207
