SBS Show

SBS Show 17 is almost at age of consent so we discussed a mature topic on a mature product: Migrating SBS. Small business networks are very mature and going from the old server to the new server is no longer a shotgun-reinstall method. Jeff Middleton is the father of SBS Migration and we talk to him about the swing process, news at sbsmigration.com, approaching documentation through subscription. We talk to Jeff about other topics as well: about being a consultant, IT Professional, SBS user groups, piracy, and religious experiences. You will want to listen to the 70+ minutes covering these topics: 0:01:40 What is Swing Migration? 0:22:00 How is Swing Migration Changing? 0:27:00 Microsoft's take on Swing Migration? 0:37:00 What is on the sbsmigration.com Portal? 0:48:20 ITPro Mash Project for New Orleans Update 0:51:30 Support for ITPro/SBS User Groups & Discounts 1:01:01 ..Jeff on Tour 1:03:00 ..Jeff on Piracy 1:07:00 ..Jeff on Consulting & Managed Services 1:09:00 ..Jeff on Swinging Download the SBS Show #17 http://www.vladville.com/sbsshow/sbsshow-episode17.mp3

SBS Show - The Cure For Common Boring Saturday at work. Thanks for putting this out on a weekend, listening to it right now, sounds AWESOME.

I must be getting old but I’m glad I staid up for this one. Thank you for bringing Jeff Middleton on again for an insightful interview. I had no idea how Swing came about, I just knew that people did not do migrations without it.

Great show as usual. Happy 17th!

Vlad I was just looking for a way to migrate SBS 2k3 last week and planning time to do it. I have never heard of SBS migration, timing on this show has been so awesome, I owe you big time. Off to Jeff!

Excellent webcast. I am certainly looking at Jeff’s manuals for my next migration. Like Chris, I too have done ADMT and it has not left me desiring another trip down that lane.

Swing Migration is by all means THE way to migrate and even DR your SBS environment. I have two swings under my belt (no punt intended) and it really makes your weekend.

Check out what Jeff is producing, it is worth your time!

Absolutely loved #17.
Excellent show.
Excellent content.
Excellent voice.
Excellent guest.

I’ve heard every single one and every time I hear you I am almost certain there is no way for you to top it. First the DR shows, then SBS PSS, then Susan Bradley, then making BOOK INTERVIEWS SOUND INTERESTING!?!??!

You just keep on getting better, congratulations to you, Chris and Susanne.

Totally excellent show. I will totally check out Jeff’s migration tools, I have a migration coming up soon just have not had a chance to research it completely. Talk about good timing!

Thanks Vlad!!!!!

Woo hoo, way to go. I just listened to the show, thank you Vlad for hooking it up and thank you Jeff for sharing.

Jeff should mirror this show on his site, more people should hear this show. Your best, IMHO.

SBS Swing Migration is definately the way to go when swinging from an old server to new or to the same hardware. I’ve done about 10 SBS migrations using Jeff’s technique and I must say, the investment you make will pay for itself on the first migration and then some. The only downtime is the time it takes to transfer the clients data back to the server whether from a hard drive or across the network. For clients with little data I’ve been able to get the downtime to as little as 5 to 10 minutes. That alone will always put a smile on your clients face.
