SBS Show

SBS Show 18 is an adult and with the age of maturity we look at a responsible topic of protecting your network with a firewall. Amy Babinchak (ISA MVP) joins us for an hour of basic questions about firewalls and general security in small business: what is a firewall, why do you need one, what does it do, which one to get and so on. This is the show you can send to your customers and give them a second opinion by an ISA expert, MVP and an author. 01:00 Who are you, what do you do? 04:00 What is a firewall? 06:00 What is ISA? 11:00 Small business threats: What does ISA stop, do I really need it? 14:00 Am I too small for a firewall? 15:00 What do firewalls do? 17:20 How does ISA compare with other solutions? 19:00 Why should I upgrade to ISA 2004? 22:50 Different ISA versions? 24:00 How do you sell ISA? 29:00 Case Study Time. 39:50 ISA Controversies: Safe on SBS? Appliances? 47:00 Will you help me configure ISA? You can find out more about Amy Babinchak at her web site (www.harborcomputerservices.net) and more about her ISA work on her blog (isainsbs.blogspot.com) Download the SBS Show #18 http://www.vladville.com/sbsshow/sbsshow-episode18.mp3

Phone calls and everything done I finally listened to the whole show.

BEST ONE EVER

This is your best show guys. Right on the money, great sense of humor, awesome sound and flow.

Congrats! Have a wonderful weekend! I am sending this to every one of my customers so they know what I do for them and why!

Very nice show guys I loved it. Amy sounds great too. Very thoughtful stuff.

Awesome show I was tipped off to it by a partner. You guys are phenomenal you should be on TechTV.

MeganK |

I won’t lie this is as good as it gets for intro to ISA. Amy should do ISA commercial voiceovers she really nails the products need in sbs.

Dear Vlad,

I was sent to your blog by our system admin. I have crammed all of your podcasts into my iPod and look forward to hearing them. I overheard a part of it at work and asked about them. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you and your crew for producing these shows and making them available for download. Thank you!

Sincerely, Adam.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I think I sound kind of nasal but maybe that’s how I always sound. I don’t get to hear myself talk that often.

Kudos to Vlad and Chris, they have a real talent for putting together great shows. Fun to listen to and fun to record.

Weekend with the SBS Show what could be better! You guys rock! Thanks for getting this one out I thought it was going to be like #15 for a minute :)

It’s on the iPod I can’t wait.

Awesome show guys. Amy, thnks, you rocked I so could have used you a month ago. To say I hate dealing with ISA is an understatement.

Vlad: Looks like you messed up the xml code and removed show #17.

carlosl |

Thanks guys I really enjoyed this one. Very down to earth and very broad coverage of the concepts for anybody interested in ISA.

davelierdht |

Kickass show as usual guys. You’ve made me buy way too many books, ISA is on the way.

Long time listener, first time commenter:

I REALLY enjoyed #18. I do not spend a lot of time managing firewalls and although I know the very basics I am not as immersed as I probably should be. Your show helped me get on the ground floor and I listened to it twice.

Amy thank you so much for sharing your expertise you are very smart.

lmathiesen58 |

Kickass, I had no idea ISA appliances existed!! You just saved me a ton of time I was spending building ISA boxes. Thank you AMY!!!

Jim Moss |

“wonderful” show guys :)

Seriously, you should be charging at least $0.99 for this.

Vlad |

Whoa, lots of comments. I guess someone posted this somewhere that got a lot of eyes or are my latest presentations on how to use RSS aggregators finally working?

Let me just say, thanks, I appreciate all the kind comments.

Megan,

Amy is the bomb.

Blake,

Thank you, it appears I did. I usually copy and paste the XML and edit it by hand but it appears I just edited this one in place of it. Sorry, I will rebuild.

Everyone,

Again, thanks. I think this may be the most positive bunch of feedback I got on these aside from the live-people I meet at conferences/events. Thank you. This is why we put the show together for you and I am really glad that you get a chance to “talk” to some of these brilliant people that are doing this for absolutely $0. Not a single person on the SBS Show has ever been compensated, in any way, and the amount of stuff they share is amazing.

About fees and charging and all that.. listen, this stuff was never intended to be a for-profit and frankly we don’t have the time to do it now. All I can say in the meantime is please support the businesses that are putting it on the line to bring you the SBS Show. For example, Amy. If you found her useful, throw the consulting work her way next time you run into an ISA “wall”; likewise for everyone else you hear here. These people are so willing to help and so open about what they do that you have to wonder about the quality of work you can expect from them. If they sucked, they wouldn’t even answer phone calls.

So again, thank you and we look forward to launching #15 this week. If you liked #18 you will love #15. It was solid 2+ hours of recording and I will try to keep as much of it in there as possible.

Excellent podcast guys! Amy you are awesome. Even played along with Vlad’s neverending redneck jabs too!

happyfunboy |

i’ve said it before…i’ll say it again…

amy has an uncanny ability to render very complex technical concepts in language that is easily understood by even the most non-technical among us, without sacrificing any accuracy

ao yeah…i’m a big amy b. fan…prolly skirting the line of needing to be served with a restraining order. :)

happyfunboy |

neverending?

y’all truly have no idea what an understatement that really is…

Amy - Harbor Computer Services |

I’m glad that my plain speak is appreciated. I’ve been a small business consultant, worked for schools and with nurses. Most of them were computer illiterate or at very least IT illiterate. Anyone who feels they need to talk techno-geek at all times has a head that is way too big for the shoulders.

Amy P. from Oregon |

Awesome show just awesome. Glad to see you guys back in full swing after taking two weeks off. Yes, I have that little life that I’m keeping tabs.
